Statement from the Waring Family

It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that the body of our daughter Kate was found October 10, 2009 on Wadmalaw Island. This revelation is both shattering and bittersweet. While we will never have the chance to see our beautiful daughter walk down the aisle at her wedding, or see her fulfill her dreams– we can now bring our daughter home and give her the proper burial she deserves. We can only imagine that our anguish and pain will not subside for quite some time, but we can now begin the healing process as a family. Thank you to everyone who has kept us in their thoughts and prayers since Kate went missing on the evening on June 12th, 2009. We ask that you please refer any questions about the investigation surrounding this case to the proper authorities. Finally, we ask that the media respect our privacy during this difficult period.
God Bless,
–Tom and Janice Waring

Tom and Janice,
My heart breaks for you and your family as you're going through this troubling time. My heart fell as I heard the news this morning on tv. Though I never met your daughter, I saw a sign about her disappearance back in July and it hit me hard. "She's beautiful and stunning, ambitious and full of life" I thought to myself. It didn't seem fair. Following her story has made me realize my own vulnerability in this life. I'm only 22, and quite often I take each day for granted. I met her brother briefly while at the Citadel and the reality of this situation has been an eye opener. Reading your memories of her brought me to tears and my heart truly aches for your loss. She sounds like a wonderful young lady. I pray that you and your family continue to heal and that Kate's story can help save other women. I also pray that she lives on in the hearts of those who have been touched by her story. She will surely stay in mine. Remember to keep God in your hearts as you move on, for although this is a painful time, it's all a part of His plan.
Wish you all the best.

Praying that the Lord's peace will surround you and fill your soul. I hope that realizing Kate has been safely in the arms of her Heavenly father all this time she was thought to be missing will bring you comfort as time passes. Hoping that those who brought misdeeds to her will also see justice both on this earth and in final judgment.

To the family of Kate Waring, I first want to say that I am so sorry for your loss. I can't even begin to imagine what you all have been going through these past few months and especially the past week. As I have read over the posts on this site, I came to understand just how special your daughter was. I have been absolutely inspired by your words describing Kate. She seems like she was such a wonderful person, and I'm sure her beautiful spirit will live on thanks to you, her loving family. I want you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. I will also pray that justice will be brought swiftly to the people who did this. Once again, I am so very sorry that this has happened to your family. Sincerely, Jeff S.
